Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen did well at athletics and was fascinated by rough and athletic games. Her inherent ability to perform was an ideal complement to her passion for athletics. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award in the field of Drama and Theater Performance which her nation had to give. Her acceptance was at the Abbey Theater by age 14 in which she explored her love of opera and classical theater. However, this plan was later modified, however, when Charles Laughton, after seeing an audition for a film of Maureen fascinated by her stunning eyes. Laughton changed her name to Maureen FitzSimons to Maureen FitzSimons, to "Maureen O'Hara" it was a shorter version of her last name. It was prior to Laughton made her a part in Jamaica Inn. Maureen was in contract with Laughton to film her next movie in America with RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1939). Maureen was able to purchase her contract with Laughton after the film was an enormous success. Maureen was 19 when she appeared alongside Laughton in two movies.
